Book Three
Very little is known about the as-yet untitled third book in the
Inheritance trilogy. Christopher Paolini has remained tight-lipped about
what happens in Book III- in fact, some of the only confirmed facts are
that the cover of the book will feature a green dragon looking to the right, and
that the title will begin with the letter E and have six letters, similar
to Eragon and Eldest. (Many fans have speculated that the title of
Book III will be Empire, but Christopher Paolini has yet to confirm
this.)
However, as it is the conclusion of the trilogy, there are loose ends to tie
up. For instance, there still remains one dragon egg left in Galbatorix’s
possession- and Christopher Paolini has confirmed that there will be a new
Rider. (At Comic-Con 2006, Christopher had the following to say about the new
Rider: “[There are] plenty of clues to the new Dragon Rider in Eragon and
Eldest,” and that the identity of the new Rider may be “a tad
surprising.”)
Other tantalizing bits Christopher has mentioned include the possibility of
Eragon having living relatives (but he refused to confirm this), the fate of
Elva, the girl Eragon accidentally cursed, and whether Saphira will ever find a
mate.
What can be assumed from the previous two books in the Inheritance
trilogy, however, is that Eragon will have to get a new weapon from underneath
the Menoa Tree, that he will learn his true name from an elf, and that he will
find the Rock of Kuthian and open the Vault of Souls. Eragon will also have to
return to Du Weldenvarden to finish his training with Oromis, and he will (more
than likely) finally encounter Galbatorix in combat.
